{"id":128,"date":"2008-07-19T22:04:00","date_gmt":"2008-07-19T22:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.andrewtully.com\/?p=128"},"modified":"2008-07-19T22:04:00","modified_gmt":"2008-07-19T22:04:00","slug":"deserters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.andrewtully.com\/?p=128","title":{"rendered":"Deserters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A couple of weeks ago I was at a my company&#8217;s summer party held in (I&#8217;m reliably informed) a fashionable club in a fashionable part of town; as I&#8217;m several steps behind the fashionable people I wouldn&#8217;t know. We had a large part of the upper floor reserved with our own (free) bar and what seemed like a continuous stream of finger food. I have no problem with free bars, I&#8217;m a big fan actually, but the same thing seems to happen at these events. At about 11pm it suddenly dawns on me that I&#8217;m no longer sober, why that surprises me I don&#8217;t know but it&#8217;s quick as if someone flicked a switch.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway; much, much later I was in conversation with a couple of friends from my office and we agreed to have dinner in their house a few weeks later and I volunteered to bring desert. The next day I had a vague recollection of agreeing to something; what and what for I couldn&#8217;t quite make out. The next working day revealed all when an email with a date for dinner and the question: would I be bringing desert and a starter or just desert?<\/p>\n<p>I searched the web for easy, cheap and yummy deserts; sounds like the ideal date! After a few phone calls and I decided to make one of my favourite deserts: Banoffee Pie. It turns out to be pretty easy to make:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Crumbled digestive biscuits and butter for the base, chilled for at least an hour.<\/li>\n<li>Caramel, bananas and fresh whipped cream for the filling.<\/li>\n<li>A sprinkling of chocolate flakes to top it off.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The result was fantastic, and it was such a thrill to see everyone enjoy it!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A couple of weeks ago I was at a my company&#8217;s summer party held in (I&#8217;m reliably informed) a fashionable club in a fashionable part of town; as I&#8217;m several steps behind the fashionable people I wouldn&#8217;t know.
