Kildare Half Marathon 2011

It’s not often you get to run a half marathon along your favorite training routes but that’s exactly what this one offers and I love it. The start line is exactly 3 miles from my house and as I had an 19 miler on my plan for this weekend I decided to fit the half marathon in-between 3 milers to and from the race.  Seemed like a good idea at the time!!

The three mile jog getting to the race was a nice warm up, unfortunately I didn’t factor in the inevitable race start delay. We were hanging around for the best part of an hour and by the time we started my warm up had cooled down considerably. On the plus side I had two warm ups for the price of one and took it easy for the first couple of miles before considering putting the boot down to get a little speed up.

Or so the plan went, the reality was a little different and I took it easy for the remaining eleven miles, crossing the finish line in a non-record breaking 2:12:14.

Still, a lovely day out, great race and nice jog home to make up the extra training miles for Luxembourg in June.
