About

My serious running career started as a bet in 2006 when myself and two colleagues decided, on a night out, at the bar, that running a 10K race was easy and anyone could do it. The Great Ireland Run was weeks away and we all agreed that we had plenty of time to knock ourselves into shape and impress the adoring crowds of cheering supporters… Our first training run nearly knocked the life out of us! Shocked, sore and in utter despair we limped to the nearest pub to reconsider. Unfortunately we had told so many people that we were doing it that backing was no longer an option. So we agreed to forge ahead and meet regularly to run, and so we did… right up to race day. We didn’t manage anything near 10K during training and we were all very very nervous and not at all sure if we could finish. But finish we did and although we lost each other during the run we managed to regroup a kilometer before the finish to cross the line together.

That was the start of my running career and I have been running ever since, running faster and longer as time passes. My goals have shifted over time, and I regularly reset targets on either longer distances, faster times or both as I improve and beat personal bests.
