Long Way To Luxembourg… Day 9

After a good nights sleep I was up and out early. I wanted to briefly visit the Mercedes-Benz museum before leaving Stuttgart so after I checked out and  packed my motorcycle I made the short trip across town towards the museum. I found a nice café nearby for breakfast before going in.

The first motorcycle the world had ever seen…

Once inside I was there for almost 5 hours… that museum was fascinating and I coud have spent longer if I didn’t need to get back on the road.Upon entering the museum on the ground floor you enter a capsule like elevator that brings you to the to floor and you work your way down to the basement. The very first exhibit you see when you leave the elevator is the worlds first motorcycle, then I knew this was going to be good.

The exhibits were amazing, how they managed to gather such a vast quantity of vehicles that represented every significant moment in the long history of Mercedes-Benz is amazing, and it really says a lot about the quality of these vehicles. Mercedes-Benz was involved in building engines, boats, motorcycles, cars, trucks, buses, fire tenders, the list is endless. There was one period that was not as well documented as other; the war years were mentioned and there were some wall mounted charts and photographs but little else.

Stuttgart to Luxembourg

I hadn’t noticed the time passing and by the time I made it to the basement it was well into the afternoon. Time to get going, I had a long ride through the Black Forrest and up through the mountains of southern Luxembourg. These roads were made for motorcycles! Perfect surfaces, plenty of twists and turns ans stunning views. I made a few stops in picturesque villages for food, coffee or just to take it all in.

Leaving Germany behind I entered Luxembourg and rode directly north toward the capital city and my home for the next four days. I wouldn’t be alone here, my sister and family were travelling down from Brussels tomorrow. When checking in I asked the concierge where I could leave my motorcycle for the next few days and he invited me to park directly outside the front door… that’s one of the good things about riding a motorcycle, you really can take it wherever you go!!
